One method to enhance the harmony of your facial features is with chin and cheek implants. Younger patients often look to implant surgery to reshape the face, so that the chin and cheeks are better proportioned. More mature patients may choose implant surgery in conjunction with another procedure; to restore a more youthful appearance by "filling out" a face that appears sunken or tired. Implants can create a more proportional profile while not interfering with the jaw or bite. Both chin and cheek implants made of solid silicone are placed through incisions in the mouth or external incisions that are well camouflaged. A chin implant enhances the contour of the jaw line, which is especially noted on the profile. A more pleasant contour for cheekbones is achieved with a cheek implant. Both implants come in variable sizes and shapes.

Cheek implants are placed under the periosteum or covering of the cheekbones, thus enhancing their projection and appearance. After surgery, you will have sutures in your mouth that will dissolve within seven days. Swelling and bruising are negligible if ice is applied within the first 24 hours. A small, hidden incision under the chin allows Dr. Beltran to place the chin implant directly onto the bone. The incision is then closed and with sutures and tape to minimize swelling after surgery. These sutures are removed in five days. With implant surgery, it is advised to refrain from strenuous activity for two to three weeks. While improvement in shape and profile will be noticeable immediately, even more dramatic improvement occurs over the next few months.

Most people will notice that you look better following surgery, but will not realize that you've had a facial implant. During the consultation process, Dr. Beltran will evaluate your individual physical characteristics, and discuss the size and approach for the implants in order to achieve the maximal effect. The desires of the patient are a major factor in determining the size and configuration of the implant. The surgery is completed on an outpatient basis and requires no aftercare procedures. After the surgery, you will be back to work within one to two weeks.
